How is type 1 diabetes diagnosed
at Metabolic.Health?

Autoantibody tests

Checks for autoantibodies that are common in type 1 diabetes to help distinguish between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Our centre in Dubai tests all patients for antibodies at their first visit.

These include:

Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) test

Measures your average blood sugar level over the past 2-3 months. An A1C level of 6.5% or higher indicates diabetes.

Ketone test

A urine test for ketones, a byproduct of fat breakdown, which can indicate diabetic ketoacidosis, a serious complication of diabetes.

Fasting blood glucose test

A blood sample is taken after an overnight fast. A fasting blood sugar level of 126 mg/dL (7.0 mmol/L) or higher on two separate tests confirms diabetes.

Random blood glucose test

A blood sample is taken at a random time. A blood sugar level of 200 mg/dL (11.1 mmol/L) or higher suggests diabetes, especially if you have other symptoms.

C-peptide test

C peptide is a byproduct of insulin production, and measuring its levels can indicate how much insulin the pancreas is producing. In type 1 diabetes, low or undetectable C-peptide levels suggest impaired insulin production due to beta-cell destruction.

FAQ

What is the best doctor to see for diabetes?

For Type 1 diabetes, the best doctor to consult is a diabetes specialist in Dubai, also known as a diabetologist. At metabolic’s diabetes center Dubai, our diabetologists provide expert care, including insulin therapy, continuous glucose monitoring, and advanced diabetes management plans.

A diabetes specialist in Dubai, such as a diabetologist, is the primary doctor for diabetes management. However, for complex cases involving hormonal imbalances, an endocrinologist at a diabetes clinic in Dubai may also be recommended.

A diabetologist is a doctor specialized in treating diabetes, while an endocrinologist treats all hormone-related conditions, including diabetes. If you have Type 1 diabetes, a diabetologist at a Dubai diabetes center is usually the best choice for ongoing care, while an endocrinologist may be involved in cases requiring broader hormone management.

Diabetes treatment, including consultations, diabetes tests in Dubai, and HbA1c tests, is covered by insurance. At metabolic’s diabetes clinic in Dubai, we also offer subscription plans starting at 595 AED per month for those without insurance, ensuring affordable, high-quality diabetes care.
